Fan Talk: Northwestern vs Ohio State Preview|Minnesota Thoughts

Background: I'm a NU alum. I was there during the bad times. I was also Spirit Leader of the NU Marching Band my senior year and cheered the football team on every home game, even when they were getting beaten week after week. I bleed purple every football season no matter what. I've been on the other side of the planet and listened to Wildcat football via the Internet. I supported the 'Cats before it was cool to do so.
My take on the victory at Minnesota: Outstanding! It shows what can happen when you play a full 60 minutes of football and never let up. This wasn't just a physical win, but a mental one as well.
BTW: The TV guys all wondered why the Gophers were going for it during the final seconds of the game instead of playing it safe and going into OT. This one is a no-brainer: nobody in their right mind wants to play Northwestern in overtime. Minnesota did the rational thing. I'm just glad it didn't work out for them.
Versus Ohio State: You can bet the OSU defensive unit is going to watch the film from the Minnesota game and you know who they will try to kill. The O-line will literally make the difference between life and death. Defense is a must. Another 60 minute performance from the whole team would give the 'Cats (and fans) real hope of "Somewhere Warm on New Year's Day."PS: Two big things I notice about the football program now versus when I was there: There is a lot more depth and the student-athletes on the team are in much better condition. It means NU can finish games with the throttle wide open.Go 'Cats!BJ Mitchell(Former NUMB Spirit Leader)
